What Is an LGZ Bottom Discharge Centrifuge?

The bottom discharge centrifuge is a vertical batch filter centrifuge that scrapes the dewatered cake off the basket wall and drops it through a hatch in the base of the machine, so the housing never has to be opened during a normal cycle. Slurry is fed into a perforated basket, filtered and washed under centrifugal force, then spin-dried. A hydraulic clamshell cover seals the process zone and a PLC drives the full sequence. Because discharge is bottom-side, a bottom discharge centrifuge can run unattended batch after batch, which is why it dominates pharmaceutical and fine chemical plants where the same product is made repeatedly.

Working Principle

Cover close. The hydraulic clamshell cover closes and interlocks, sealing the process zone.

2) Feed. Slurry is fed at controlled rate until the basket is loaded, with feedback from the filtrate or from a load sensor.

3) Separation. The basket accelerates and the liquid passes the filter medium while solids build on the wall.

4) Wash. Wash liquid is distributed across the cake to displace mother liquor.

5) Spin-dry. Speed is raised to the spin-dry level until residual moisture meets target.

6) Discharge. The scraper advances and cuts the cake off the wall so it falls through the bottom hatch; where a stubborn heel remains, the optional air-assisted scraper blows it clear, and the cover then reopens for the next batch.

No. In normal operation the cover stays closed. The scraper cuts the cake from the basket wall and it falls through the hatch in the base of the housing. The cover is opened only for inspection, filter-medium changes or cleaning.

After the main scrape a thin heel always stays on the wall. The air-assisted scraper breaks that layer away and clears it through the bottom hatch, so the next batch starts from a cleaner basket and the filter cloth is not damaged by repeated hard scraping. It is an option, specified for products that leave a sticky or compact residue.

Yes. The sealed clamshell cover, mechanical shaft seal and optional nitrogen blanketing keep the process zone isolated. With the explosion-proof motor and panel, solvent-wet cakes can be processed safely.
