What Is a PBZ Top Discharge Centrifuge?

The PBZ is a flat plate batch filter centrifuge that opens from above: the cover lifts or swings clear, and the dewatered cake is taken out of the basket from the top. The flat plate base carries the whole weight of the rotating assembly low down, which keeps the center of gravity near the floor and makes the machine unusually steady in service. A high separation factor does the dewatering; a large opening cover makes unloading and cleaning straightforward. The result is a top discharge centrifuge that suits pharmaceutical, food and fine chemical plants where batch sizes are moderate, floor space is limited and the machine must be cleanable between products.

Working Principle

1) Load and close. The filter medium is fitted, the cover closed, and the basket brought up to speed. 2) Feed. Slurry is fed at a controlled rate and spreads evenly over the medium. 3) Filtration. Liquid passes through the filter medium under centrifugal force while solids build up as a cake. 4) Wash. Wash liquid is distributed across the cake to displace mother liquor and remove soluble impurities. 5) Spin-dry. The basket runs at full speed until the residual moisture target is met. 6) Top unloading. The basket slows or stops, the cover opens and the cake is removed from above — by hand, by scraper or by vacuum, depending on the execution.
