What Is a PSB Flat Plate Top Discharge Centrifuge?

The PSB flat plate top discharge centrifuge is a batch filter centrifuge in which the cake is removed by hand from the top of the basket: the cover is opened, the machine comes to a standstill, and the operator lifts the dewatered cake out directly. There is no scraper and no vacuum head touching the product, so fragile crystals leave the basket the way they were formed. Slurry is fed into the perforated drum and separated under centrifugal force; the liquid passes through the filter medium while solids build up as a cake on the drum wall. With eight sizes from 200 to 1250 mm drum diameter — from bench-scale batches to 480 kg loads — the PSB covers everything from laboratory and pilot work to full production, all on the same flat plate platform.

Working Principle

1) Feed. With the cover closed, slurry is fed into the rotating drum through the feed pipe and spreads over the filter medium at a controlled rate. 2) Separation. Liquid passes through the medium under centrifugal force while crystals build up as an even cake on the drum wall. 3) Skim and wash. Residual mother liquor can be lifted off with the skimming pipe, then wash liquid is applied to displace soluble impurities. 4) Spin-dry. The drum continues at the set speed — adjustable through the frequency converter — to reduce residual moisture. 5) Manual top discharge. The machine stops, the cover is opened, and the cake is lifted out from above by hand. Nothing scrapes the drum wall and no mechanical blade breaks the crystals.

Eight sizes on one platform — 200, 300, 450, 600, 800, 1000, 1200 and 1250 mm drums, so a process developed on a small unit scales up without changing machine type.

Choose the PSB flat plate top discharge centrifuge when the crystals are worth protecting and batches are small enough for manual unloading. Where the same product runs in longer campaigns, the PQG with vacuum discharge removes the work, and the PSD bag lifting machine carries it to bigger loads.

FAQ

For high-value crystals it is usually the opposite. Manual removal takes a few minutes per batch, needs no scraper mechanism to maintain, and never breaks the product. Where batches run large and discharge frequency becomes the bottleneck, that is the point to move to the PQG with vacuum discharge.

Nothing mechanical touches the cake. There is no scraper blade, no vacuum head and no plough, so the crystals are lifted out exactly as they were formed. Broken crystals finish in the mother liquor and are lost; on products like MSG or fine pharmaceutical intermediates that loss pays for the machine.

Yes. In the closed execution the housing seals with silicone or fluororubber gaskets, a nitrogen protection system isolates the inside of the machine from outside air, and explosion-proof motor and lights are available. This combination suits solvent-wet and poisonous products.

Two ways at once. The built-in CIP spray system washes the drum inside and out, the housing walls and the liquid collector without opening anything; and the flap-type cover lets you clean the space between housing and drum by hand where visible verification is required. Both are expected under GMP.

Eight models from 200 mm to 1250 mm drum diameter, with working volumes from 1.8 to 354 litres and batch loads from 2.5 to 480 kg. The small units run as laboratory and pilot machines; the large ones are full production. Custom production to user requirements is standard for us.
